Things to do before taking the CLAT exam



Many of you think that CLAT is the biggest hurdle in your life as a law aspirant. But dear law aspirant, before you sit for CLAT, there are a lot of things that need to be done. From planning and strategizing your preparation to making short term and long term plans to identifying areas of strengths and weaknesses to getting yourself familiar with the pattern of CLAT, you need to ensure you are well prepared with armor before taking a shot at CLAT.

This article will help you make a checklist of all the things you need to do before taking CLAT and help you clear a lot of confusions about your CLAT preparation





1.     UNDERSTAND WHAT CLAT IS
The first step for you as a law aspirant will be to understand what exactly CLAT is.  Also, you have to be clear whether law is the career for you or not. It would be great if you can talk to some people who have appeared for CLAT to understand the pattern of CLAT and also some lawyers to gain more insight into what law offers as a profession. This will help you in making up your mind about appearing for CLAT


2.     UNDERSTAND THE PATTERN OF CLAT
After understanding what CLAT is and taking a decision to appear for the same, You need to understand the pattern of CLAT. Study in depth the CLAT exam pattern of the examination, the time limit given to you, the weightage per section etc.


3.     ANALYSE YOUR PROFICIENCIES IN DETAIL
After understanding each section of CLAT, it’s time for you to analyze your current level of proficiency in each section. Go through the syllabus of each section and see which topics and sections need maximum work. This will help you in building your strategy for CLAT preparation.


4.     PREPARE A PLAN FOR PREPARATION
After yourself analysis, you need to decide which mode of preparation is best suited for you.Many institutes offer classroom teaching programmes spread over various duration for CLAT preparation, If you decide to opt for a classroom learning programme., it is up to you to decide what kind of course is best suited for you. If classroom preparation is not suitable for you, self study is also an alternative option. You can go through online resources and buy books for your preparation.

5.     STARTING YOUR PREPARATION
Now comes the time for focusing and starting your preparation for CLAT. Whichever mode of preparation you have opted for, its better to make a structured schedule for your preparation and start following that schedule topic by topic. 


6.     CONTINUOSLY EVALUATE YOURSELF
After you have started your preparation, tyou need to keep evaluating uour level of preptration in each of the sections regularly. This helps in the identification of areas of strength and weaknesses. This will further help you in building your strategy for CLAT.


7.     BUILDING ON YOUR AREAS OF WEAKNESSES
Your evaluation through the tests will help you understand which topics need more time and effort. Also, based on your areas of strength and weaknesses, you can build a strategy as of which areas and topics to attempt first, how to better manage your time and how to get an edge over other CLAT aspirants.


8.     KEEP YOUR CALM
One very important thing that needs to be done before CLAT is that along with being focused, you need to learn how to deal with stress. Many of you panic and and start taking a  lot of stress, but its not worth it. Stay confident, stay calm.
